Solve parking problems at Vasco, say commuters | Goa News

VASCO: The Vasco traffic cell will crack down on taxi hire and bicycles parked all day in spaces marked for public parking. Mormugao City Council (MMC) councilors said they would pursue the matter at the next meeting.
Paras, a commuter who regularly visits the city, had to make several turns to find a parking space. He criticized bike rental operators and the municipality for messing up parking in the port city. “Why do we need local governing bodies when they can’t run things properly,” he said.
Councilor Shami Salkar said she had repeatedly raised the issues but no action had been taken. Salkar said: “The problem is serious and needs to be addressed holistically. I will address this issue at the next board meeting.
Another commuter, Shipra Mokashi, said it’s a daily problem at Vasco. “Bicycles and cars are parked haphazardly everywhere. I heard that the municipality was supposed to set up paid parking and mark parking spaces, but there is no sign of this.
DySP (Traffic) Sudesh Narvekar said: “I will instruct Traffic PI Vasco to take action against anyone who is unnecessarily occupying space by parking rental bikes, depriving others of parking.”
