President Preckwinkle, County Council Commissioners Donna Miller, Brandon Johnson and Frank J. Aguilar, the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development and the Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) announced another round of emergency aid to rental (ERA 2) to support residents of suburban Cook County who are at risk of becoming homeless or unstable due to the pandemic. The program will spend an additional $ 75 million, funded by the US bailout, to provide emergency rental assistance to tenants and landlords, with priority given to the most vulnerable residents of suburban Cook County. The program will remain open until Friday, October 29, 2021. The program will cover past and current utility expenses, or other related housing expenses, including relocation fees, security deposits, processing fees and temporary housing solutions. In addition, under the ERA 2, social housing residents and families with housing choice vouchers are eligible to apply for assistance for their share of rent. Residents and landlords facing evictions and debt issues are also encouraged to contact Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD) at www.cookcountylegalaid.org or by calling 855- 956-5763 for free legal aid and mediation services to help resolve issues.
